Which is a good anti-virus software for reasonable price?

I have mcafee on my computer but it is terrible. Despite it, my computer got infected with lots of malware and adware which kept blocking performance. The mcafee security center keeps saying, "your computer is not protected". When i clicked, "fix now", i get response saying "one or more errors on your computer don’t allow fixing". But that is what i paid mcafee — to deal with errors. And saying, "can’t do it" is horrible.
I contacted mcafee technical support and they said i have to pay $64 more to diagonse errors. This is way beyond any logic for me.
I want to get another anti-virus now which is not so problematic. I installed another anti-spyware named, "PC tools Spyware Doctor" for $29 per year and it detected 264 infected files with malware, adware. I just got that cleaned. Mcafee could not do anything against it.
So if possible please let me know a good anti-virus program that works. Mcafee fooled me real bad.
I have researched all anti-virus products and the best anti-virus protection is Kaspersky. Kaspersky is the best all-round anti-virus program. NOD32 is just as good if not better, it runs faster and has less software conflicts but may be more difficult to use.
Recent tests prove Kaspersky and NOD32 are better than the best sellers Norton and McAfee (av-comparatives.org). Norton is notoriously bloated and takes forever to perform full systems scans.
Trend Micro Antivirus is a viable alternative if you’re having a lot of trouble with software conflicts. Trend Micro rounds out the top three. BitDefender is very good as well, but gives a high number of false alarms.
The most popular free anti-virus programs (AVG and Avast) have poor detection rates (82.82%, 87.46% respectively). If you want a free anti-virus Avira has higher detection rates than AVG or Avast! (94.26%).

Mcafee is simply horrible. Its all words but no action. The reason why its on your computer because it has deals with major retailers like best buy, circuit city etc etc that it should be pre-installed. So you don’t really get a chance to know the large variety of anti-virus software that exists because of such deals.
I use avira. http://www.avira.com is very good. It is a German anti-virus program but has never so far failed to prevent threats on my PC

I have found many problems such as this over the past years that paid software is ‘over protective;’. I have stumbled upon a very good peice of software that is free is not over protective and will work in real time, which means it looks for viruses whithout you knowing about it BUt it uses very little memory which means it does not slow down the computer at all. Unlike nortin and Mcaffee. Here is the link, you can pay for an upgrade to the software but the free one is just as good (o and by the way its called AVG):
